Managing Cluster Templates

From the navigation menu in the controller UI, you can access the list of saved cluster templates and create clusters using those templates. The templates are also available in the CREATE CLUSTER form, allowing you to quickly create a cluster from a template.

Saving a Cluster Template

When creating a cluster, after providing cluster parameters and clicking CREATE CLUSTER, you can optionally save a cluster configuration as a cluster template:

To save a cluster configuration as cluster template:

  1. Check (Optional) Save these settings as a cluster template.
  2. Enter a name for the template.
  3. Click SAVE TEMPLATE to save the template without creating a cluster or YES, CEATE CLUSTER to save the template and create a cluster.
  4. Note that you can click show cli json to generate a JSON template for this cluster. You can use this JSON template to create a cluster using the CLI.

Viewing Cluster Templates

  1. From the controller UI navigation menu, select CLUSTER TEMPLATES.

  2. The list of saved templates is displayed.

  3. To view the details of the a template, click on the control icon next to the Template Name and select View Details.

  4. The details of the template are displayed, including:

    • HDP Version
    • Cluster Type
    • Master Node, Worker Node, and Compute Node details (including bid price for compute nodes, if applicable)
    • Custom Properties
    • Tags
    • Protected Gateway Access settings
  5. You can click show cli json to generate a JSON template for this cluster. You can use this JSON template to create a cluster using the CLI.

Deleting Cluster Templates

  1. From the controller UI navigation menu, select CLUSTER TEMPLATES.

  2. The list of saved templates is displayed.

  3. Click on the control icon next to the Template Name and select DELETE.

  4. Click YES, DELETE CLUSTER TEMPLATE.

  5. Alternatively, you can view the template details and click delete template.

Creating a Cluster from a Template

  1. From the controller UI navigation menu, select CLUSTER TEMPLATES.

  2. The list of saved templates is displayed.

  3. Click on the control icon next to the Template Name and select CREATE.

  4. The CREATE CLUSTER form is displayed.

  5. Enter the cluster name and click CREATE TEMPLATE.

  6. Alternatively, you can view the template details and click create cluster.

All cluster templates are also available in the CREATE CLUSTER form, allowing you to quickly create a cluster from a template. Refer to Creating a Cluster.

Managing Cluster Templates via CLI

You can generate a CLI skeleton and save it as a JSON file, which can serve as a template for creating clusters. For more information, refer to CLI documentation.
